Luis Díaz scores in 15 seconds as Bayern overcome Frankfurt

Luis Díaz took just 15 seconds to give Bayern Munich the lead inside of 15 seconds in their 3-0 win away at Eintracht Frankfurt before Harry Kane set a new scoring record to maintain the reigning German champions’ perfect start to the season.

Díaz secured a brace and Kane swept in his 11th league goal already — becoming the first player to do so in the opening six games of a Bundesliga season — before he was taken off following treatment on his ankle.

Vincent Kompany’s side went on to close out a 10th straight victory in all competitions, taking full advantage of rivals Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig having drawn 1-1 earlier on Saturday to move four points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

Bayern, who coasted to a second straight Champions League win after beating Pafos in Limassol on Tuesday night, got themselves in front after only 15 seconds.

Having seen an initial kick-off called back by the referee for starting before his whistle, Bayern knocked the ball to goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who lofted a long ball upfield for Kane to flick on.

The ball dropped to Serge Gnabry, who darted into the right side of the penalty area and sent a cross through the six-yard box, where Díaz arrived to stab his shot in off the boot of goalkeeper Kauã Santos.

It was then almost swiftly 2-0 when Michael Olise’s cross was deflected onto the crossbar by Frankfurt captain Robin Koch.

Bayern had the ball in the net again after 11 minutes, but Kane had strayed offside as he raced onto a pass down the middle.

Frankfurt who thrashed 5-1 at Atlético Madrid in their midweek European tie, saw an equaliser from Jean-Mattéo Bahoya’s curling strike ruled out in the 16th minute after a VAR review for handball by Ritsu Doan before he sent a cross over from the right.

Kane did get his goal in the 27th minute, drilling a low shot into the bottom corner after being set up by Díaz on the edge of the Frankfurt penalty area.

Bayern could have further extended their lead early in the second half when first Gnabry fired over from 12 yards before Kane saw his angled strike from a corner come back off the inside of a post.

Frankfurt tried to force their way back into the match, with Doan firing wide from the edge of the Bayern box after a free-kick had been half-cleared.

With 10 minutes left, Kane took a tumble after colliding with Santos as he latched onto a ball into the penalty area, but had been flagged offside.

Kane initially looked in some discomfort, needing treatment and ice on his right ankle, before being helped back to his feet, taking a slow jog and was able to play on again.

Díaz fired in a late third after being set up by substitute Raphaël Guerreiro before Kane was then swiftly taken off as a precaution in the 85th minute, replaced by Nicolas Jackson.
